There is an interesting exhibition of Kevin Cummins‘ music photography coming to Salts Mill this week . Kevin Cummins, in case you are not familar with him, has taken numerous iconic pictures of bands for such publications as NME, The Times and The Guardian. This exhibition documents the Manchester music scene from 1976 to the present day. I’m certainly planning to go along to Salts Mill to see this myself as it sounds like a great thing to be coming to Bradford District. Bands whose photos can be seen include Joy Division, The Smiths, Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses and Oasis.
The exhibition, entitled MANCHESTER: Looking for the Light through the Pouring Rain, will be in the roof space from 11am til 4.30pm every day. On Sunday 11th October at 3pm Kevin Cummins will be in conversation with Kevin Sampson about photography, music and the North. Tickets for this special event £5 (£3 concessions) are on sale in the 1853 Gallery or by calling 01274 587377 (10.30am – 5pm daily)
Excellent – I’d definitely like to get along to this.
The great big gritty industrial setting is just perfect for the whole Madchester evocation. Do get to this – it’s great. (My favourites are the wavy arms and Morrissey’s used floor.)
