Kitty (Daisy and Lewis AWOL)

The hair could rival the T-Birds

Quiffs to rival the T-Birds

The London lols continue. Not putting on a radio show every week means I have been putting my efforts into interviews and a few other interesting projects (more on that soon). It also means that there are alot of bands kicking around…thus more interviews.

I decided to chase after BCB favorites Kitty Daisy and Lewis at one of there few gigs, I passed the CRB with flying colours, found my way onto the guest list (thanks Andy at Sunday Best) and spent about 4 hours chasing them around. At five to twelve I finally managed to get Kitty to stand still long enough to answer a few questions the results of which can be heard below, I am also spending a little more time editing my interviews so these should be a little more interesting to listen too ….I missed the last tube and had to suffer the night bus for a hour and a half…the things I do for you guys.

Oh there is a swear in the interview…so watch out…

Dear blog readers. Today the ‘Untitled Noise’ is 5 Months 2 Weeks old. In that time between us we have written 186 Posts, between about 5 regularly writers. We have brought you audio interview content, festival coverage, competitions, interview accesses and a host of carefully warped opinion. We called the blog Untitled Noise as a temporary name until we could work out what to call it. I must admit I have grown some what fond of it.

Believe it or not we do have a readership out there. We see it in the statistics; without a readership we probably would not have carried on writing. But now we want to draw you into what we do even more. We want you to start contributing. We are not asking for much, simply start commenting. This will offer us some insight into who reads the blog and, where we should take it. We get a fair wack of traffic form the USA so please do say ‘HOWDY’ to us Brits in Yorkshire.

So please do click the submit comment button after you have read our artical. It will make us really happy 🙂

When Big Joan Sets Up 12/11/09 -I’m a little bit country, you’re a little bit rock and roll

In a Dark Side of the Moon/Wizard of Oz type scenario , I’m still reeling from the fact that if you listen to Eclectic Mainline from last night whilst also watching “An Audience with Donnie and Marie” a strange syncronicity emerges that suggests there is a higher power at work.

Mind you, I flipped over to the Luton Town vs Rochdale game halfway through and it still worked , so maybe I should stop drinking Polish beer. Or maybe Albert Freeman is an emissary of Satan . Or maybe I should stop rambling and tell you what tracks I played;

Musical Genres That Don’t Exist Part Three – Nu Yorkshire

NewYorkshire

Well its been a bloody while, eh, eh don’t you think? Pull up a pew and listen to my ranty scribbles once more. To me the best form of journalism is ill-informed journalism. This tends to lead to far more adventitious stories; the kind of stories that stop you in your tracks (if you’re a train) or just stop you if you’re a human; the kind of stories that you don’t believe because they sound so mind bogglingly impossible, yet must be true as they exist in print or on our blog. I mean if you cannot trust the Internet who can you trust? Would the world have been a more interesting place if we were informed that the recently passing of Michael Jackson (‘This Is It’ review coming soon!) was actually a killer sting operation by MI6 to defend the security of our believed nation. It would not be true but it would make for a bloody good read. Anyhow I seem to be going off topic, however a blog posted is thought out and edited so everything I have left in could quite easily have been taken out by me and replaced by real content thus its kind of impossible to go off topic. ANYHOW! my point is I am in no way qualified to talk about these topics and have no authority to do so, but shall anyhow. If you’re cool with this then pray continue…

Kevin Cummins photo exhibition at Salts Mill

Ian Curtis, photographed by Kevin Cummins

There is an interesting exhibition of Kevin Cummins‘ music photography coming to Salts Mill this week .  Kevin Cummins, in case you are not familar with him, has taken numerous iconic pictures of bands for such publications as NME, The Times and The Guardian.  This exhibition documents the Manchester music scene from 1976 to the present day.  I’m certainly planning to go along to Salts Mill to see this myself as it sounds like a great thing to be coming to Bradford District.  Bands whose photos can be seen include Joy Division, The Smiths, Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses and Oasis.

Speech Debelle & The Mercury Music Prize

I had intended to knock something up about the Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize before I went on holiday, and therefore also before this year’s winner was announced.

You only have my word for it, therefore, that Speech Debelle was my tip for the prize. In fact, I think I have now correctly guessed the Mercury Prize winner for the past four years. Sadly, I’ve never even set foot inside a bookmaker’s, so my Nostradamusesque capabilities in this matter have sadly not led to a bulging wallet.

It’s a strange old beast, the Mercury. When Antony & The Johnsons won the prize in 2005 for the modern masterpiece I Am A Bird Now, the eponymous lead singer Antony Hegarty claimed that the award was “kind of like a crazy contest between an orange and a spaceship and a potted plant and a spoon – which one do you like better?” I suspect it this nonsensical eclecticism which determines that I should always be quite so interested in the result.
