Our volunteers do great work in supporting the station and its wider work but lots of us don’t know that we are actually a membership organisation?
In the past we have not always been very good at explaining this to new volunteers, so it’s not too surprising that some don’t know!
Members all commit to the Aims of BCB and pay a small annual fee.
Here are a few reasons why it is important to be a member:
- It helps BCB to show the range of volunteers and to demonstrate how it plays an important part in the lives of many people and their communities
- It gives all volunteers an ownership of BCB, attendance at the AGM and an opportunity to contribute to the management and organisation of the station and steer its wider work
- It makes a small but significant contribution to BCB’s finances, helping the station and other projects to continue
- It’s in our rules that all broadcasters must be paid-up members to make programmes!
For some years, the minimum fees have remained at £5 for unwaged and £10 for waged members (a corporate £25 membership is also available) and there are no plans to increase this.
The payment can be made by cash, cheque, standing order or bank transfer.

This is the minimum membership fee and this will be sufficient for many. However, we would like all volunteers to consider if you are in a position to give BCB further support, for example by making a regular additional membership contribution (perhaps £5 monthly) by standing order. I’m sure you’ll agree that we have all gained so much from being involved with BCB and this offers a small way that some of us can help the organisation to continue projects and supporting new people.
