BCB Xtra @ The Bradford Young Citizens Award 2011

Posted by Matt Smith On March - 14 - 2011

The Bradford Youth Awards took place at Bradford’s St George’s Hall on the 9th March 2011 and we, at BCB Xtra, went to cover the awards for an upcoming show!
Me, Other Matt, and Hannah were to interview (hopefully) all the winners, nominees, and hopefully some celebrity guests! BBC Look North’s Christa Ackroyd was there to show her support for the awards and Hannah made the fatal , but easy to make, mistake of telling her we were from the BBC!

This was the 5th Bradford Young Citizens Award.

In and amongst our mistakes we did manage to successfully interview and congratulate many of the winners of the night, of which there were 12, and many of the nominees, who were all praised for what they have brought to Bradford over the years, and especially in the past calendar year.
The winners were:

Make a Positive Contribution – Israr Mohammed (11 and under) and Coran Oxley (12 – 25)

Be Healthy – Jamie Li (11 and under) and Grosvenor Youth Committee (12 – 25)

Enjoy & Achieve – Buddy Lambert (11 and under) and Lewis Birkinshaw (12 – 25)

Stay Safe – PALZ Manningham project (11 and under) and Natalie Sargent (12 – 25)

Achieve Economic Well-Being – Eastwood Year 6 Enrichment Group (11 and Under) and Dominic Humble (12 – 25)

Group Award – Keighley United

Outstanding Achievement – Coran Oxley

Winner of the Stay Safe 11-25 Years Award, Natalie Sargent stops for a picture with Sam Ashton aka. Chesney (Coronation Street)

All the celebrities from the night were very friendly and happy to talk to us, Matt even got an autograph off of Sam Ashton after his interview! Hannah also managed to get an interview with Christa Ackroyd as I have previously referred to

We all had a brilliant night and we shall hopefully be completing the show on the 15th of March and I will let you know when it is aired!

Write an Article…

Posted by Hannah Rebecchi On April - 21 - 2010

I’m not going to bang on at you … It’s as simple as this! …

WRITE AN ARTICLE?

Why not take a minute here or there to write an article? Being a young person myself, I know how much time we all spend on the computer or on a games console. Why not do something productive for half an hour and write an article and be a part of BCB EXtra?

BCB EXtra is all about the young people and come on guys, we can’t do it without you. BCB EXtra is going to be huge this year and it will be all thanks to you out there. So, why don’t you let it be you! You could be a part of BCB EXtra and share your opinion, voice and stories with the whole of Bradford… even more so, the whole of the internet!

  • Articles such as reviews of films, books, CDs, shows or something else you have an interest in?
  • Specialist topics such as religion in April. Politics in May. Exams, school and revision in June. Summer in July. Music in August.
  • A subject you feel strongly about such as charities or something you want to big up and get other people interested in.
  • Experiences you’ve had with jobs, youth work, school and other things like that.

I really hope you get the idea … You can literally write about anything!

So, get your thinking cap on. Write an article. Be a part of BCB EXtra and email us at: bcbextramag@hotmail.com

Cheers everyone.

Don’t forget to read the other articles on the site and comment on them – with further stories or just what you thought of the article in general.

Young people work hard to bring BCB EXtra to you and keep it up and running. So, why don’t you get involved? End of day, what’s a few minutes here or there?

BCB EXtra

Posted by Hannah Rebecchi On April - 9 - 2010

It suddenly hit me … We don’t talk much about what BCB EXtra is on this website … On BCB EXtra’s website! So, I am going to tell you now exactly what BCB EXtra is.

To sum it up: BCB EXtra is all about the young people. To be even more specific the young people from around Bradford!

A small group of young people at the beginning of last year put in a bid for some money so that we could start BCB EXtra and make it Bradford’s next big thing! As you can see, we were successful and got some money. We are based at BCB radio station in the centre of Bradford and our small group of young people is steadily increasing. However, I don’t want it to be steadily increasing any longer… I want there to suddenly be a big BOOM in our population! We cannot make BCB EXtra Bradford’s next big thing if we don’t have the people of Bradford with us.

So, I’m calling all the young people of Bradford and I’m shouting out to the young people: “Please get involved”. Why don’t you help put Bradford on the map for young people. BCB EXtra could be huge and you could help make it huge. So, don’t be one of those people who sit back and wishes they had the time to get involved or wishes they had the time to find out a little bit more information. Be the person who gets in touch, gets involved and helps make BCB EXtra the next big thing!

As a young person now-a-days, I’m aware that we don’t have the best press. Even worse, as a young person from Bradford I’m aware we have an even worse press; but we know it’s not true. We know there’s a minority of young people out there who don’t deserve to be classed in our group. There’s a bunch of misfits out there who give us a bad reputation. Well, I’m making my voice heard. I’m making a stand! I’m going to shout to the world and show them what I do. I take time out to share my thoughts on this website. I take my time out to go on the radio and be heard. I take some of my time to show the other generations that this new generation of young people aren’t something to be scared of… we are the future of this world and I want to make that future start now.

So, if you want to join my future and the future of all the other young people who are already involved with BCB EXtra then why don’t you…

  • Add us on Facebook
  • Email us at: bcbextramag@hotmail.com
  • Tune in to the Radio
  • Read the magazine
  • But most importantly … GET INVOLVED

Thank you,
Hannah
