Why do I volunteer?
Well, there are different reasons for everyone and I’m sure deep down everyone has a reason which will persuade them to volunteer.
However, for me, volunteering has been one of the most important things in my life over the last few years and I hope it will stay in my heart for many, many years more. It gives me the most wonderful feeling inside. This is because I’m enjoying it! I love all the work i’ve done for BCB over the last few years and BCB EXtra is by far the best and most enjoyable project I’ve been involved in so far.
On top of that, I’ve learnt 1001 skills that I can take into my everyday life, stick on my CV or UCAS and it’s given me life skills and an outlook on life beyond school … into the real world!
Although, personal development and enjoyment are good enough reasons for me to want to volunteer, that’s not why I initially got involved. I wanted to help … and I have! I help every time that I do my volunteer work. Whether it’s one person i’ve helped or a few thousand; I still know I’ve helped at least one person out there, and for me, that is the reason I spend my weeks doing voluntary work.
You might have different reasons, but trust me, whether it’s the beginning of volunteering, in the middle or at the end of doing it … It will be worth it!
Thank you,
Hannah
